About
Part of the Women’s Fund for Scotland, Feisty Gals is the face we’ve created for our fund-raising activities. It’s fun, loud and proud and here to make change happen. We want more funds to create space for women and girls, amplify their voices, make more grants, make those grants bigger and make them over many more years.
We know the grass-roots initiatives we fund rely on our small grants for survival. Each tiny grant has a massive positive impact on the lives of individual women and girls across Scotland.
Why Now
The proportion of grant making funds that go to groups for women and girls across the UK is tiny, only:
1.8%
We’d like to change that.
We can’t do it on our own.
We need you.
We know women and girls face particular issues relating to:
Moving on from abuse
Poverty and isolation
Health and wellbeing
Leadership skills
Financial resilience
The Women’s Fund would love to give larger grants, more grants and more multi-year grants to organisations who provide these invaluable services to women and girls.
We realised the Women’s Fund wasn’t a very exciting brand! Our Director, Shona, had a brainwave about two years ago……let’s create events for Feisty Gals. We know Feisty people like you will be reading this and the sparks of creativity will be flying.
Our Story
Marion Thomas was a visionary and deeply passionate woman determined to support women and girls in Scotland experiencing challenges – she created the Women’s Fund for Scotland in 2002.
Since 2002, and in memory of Marion since 2011, the Women’s Fund for Scotland has been nurtured and driven by the amazing Sue Robertson. She has tirelessly championed its cause for over 2 decades.
Shona Blakeley has run it, cared for it and driven it forward since 2013. Trustees past and present have ensured its survival.
It’s now time to thrive, be heard, and stake our claim across Scotland’s charity sector. Feisty Gals represents the voices of women and girls who don’t have a voice and are sometimes too scared to speak out.
Feisty Gals is making space for women and girls who have for far too long been sidelined, silenced and marginalised.
In the words of the great Annie Lennox,
“we’re coming out of the shadows”
